NH Collection Prague Carlo IV

NH Collection Prague Carlo IV

Perfectly matched for exploring Prague’s rich history

Take a step back in time when you stay at the NH Collection Prague Carlo IV, as this palatial retreat has a storied past. The building opened in 1890 as the first Land Bohemian Mortgage Bank, and during Communist rule, it became the headquarters of the Prague Post Office, where mail censorship was carried out. Today the Carlo IV has retained many of the bank's original features, which garnered it a spot on the Czech National Heritage list. In the grand lobby, you can still make out the shape of the teller cages along the walls, and the bank vault is now a place to sip a cocktail while viewing displays about the building's history.

Lobby Bar

The décor of the 152 rooms and suites blends contemporary design with classical style. All rooms have modern furnishings, but book a junior suite in the historic wing that once housed the bank's offices, as they come with double-high ceilings, hardwood floors, rich swag drapery, and gorgeous ceiling frescos.

Suite

The aptly named 1890 restaurant serves a lavish breakfast buffet that will leave you wanting nothing, and its dinner menu reflects regional and international cuisine. The adjacent grand lobby, anchored by four black alabaster pillars, towering palms, sparkling tiled floors, and the 1890s bar, is a welcoming space to meet, relax, and enjoy a drink.

Pool and Wellness Area

Your visit isn't complete until you spend some time in what used to be the underground vault – now the Carlo IV Wellness & Spa. Swim in the heated 20-metre pool or relax in the sauna and steam room. There is also a fitness centre and, of course, pampering treatments. Try the Czech Aromatherapy massage, which uses blossom oil derived from the linden tree - the national tree and symbol of Czechia.

The Carlo IV is ideally located just steps from Prague's central train station and 15 minutes from the enchanting old town, surrounded by shops and restaurants. Or catch a tram at the corner using the Prague City Card (available at the hotel) that will connect you to the rest of Prague's historical locales.
